Labuan Bajo is a small harbour town, so getting around is easy once you know what works here. Most of what you need is along one main street, the islands are reached by boat, and for everything in between there are ojeks, scooters, and drivers. Ride-hailing apps work differently here than in Bali or Jakarta, so it’s worth knowing that before you land.

Do Grab and Gojek Work in Labuan Bajo?
Yes, but not the way they do in Bali. Both apps open in Labuan Bajo and you can sometimes get a motorbike ride around town, but there are few drivers, cars are rare, and requests often go unanswered outside the centre. They’re handy for a quick hop to a restaurant, not something to plan your day around.
For anything that matters, like the airport, an early boat departure, or a day trip, use one of these instead:
- Your hotel’s driver or shuttle. Many hotels offer airport pickup and can arrange cars.
- A local driver on WhatsApp. Most drivers in town work this way. Ask your hotel or tour operator for a number.
- Street ojeks. Motorbike taxis wait at corners and near the harbour. Agree on the price before you get on.

Walking and Local Transport in Town
The town centre is compact. Restaurants, shops, dive centres, and the harbour are mostly along or near the main street, Jalan Soekarno Hatta, and you can walk between them in 10 to 20 minutes. The streets are hilly in places, so it’s sweaty work in the midday heat.
Local minibuses called bemos run fixed routes for a few thousand rupiah, but they don’t follow a timetable and have little room for luggage. Most visitors stick to ojeks and drivers.
Scooter Rentals and Ojeks
A scooter is the most flexible way to reach nearby beaches and viewpoints. Standard scooters like a Honda Scoopy or Vario cost about IDR 75,000 to 100,000 a day, and bigger models more. Check the brakes, lights, and tyres before you pay, wear the helmet, and take it slow on the steep, winding roads outside town.
To ride legally you need an International Driving Permit that covers motorcycles, along with your home licence. Without one, your travel insurance may not cover you if something goes wrong.
Don’t want to ride yourself? Ojeks are everywhere. A short ride in town is usually around IDR 20,000, and longer trips cost more. Always agree on the price first.
Private Car With a Driver
If you’re traveling as a family or want a comfortable day out, hire a car with a driver. Expect roughly IDR 600,000 to 1,200,000 for a full day, depending on the car, the hours, and where you go. Book through your hotel or tour operator, or ask around near the harbour. Most drivers speak some English and know good places to stop for food and photos.
Boats to the Islands and Beaches
Labuan Bajo sits on the coast of Flores, so the famous islands and Komodo National Park are only reachable by boat. You have three main options:
- Shared day tours are the most affordable way to see Padar, Komodo or Rinca, and Pink Beach in one day.
- Private speedboats cost much more but let you choose the stops and avoid the busiest times.

Airport Transfers
Komodo Airport is only about 10 minutes by car from town. A taxi to the town centre usually costs around IDR 50,000 to 100,000. Some drivers and kiosks at arrivals quote much higher prices, so agree on the fare before you get in, or arrange a pickup in advance. Many hotels offer free or paid pickup if you book ahead.
