Most people plan Labuan Bajo around one thing: a boat trip into Komodo National Park. But the town and the hills of Flores behind it have plenty more, from a swimming pool inside a cave to waterfalls, villages, and some of the best sunsets in Indonesia. Here’s how to spend 3, 4 or 5 days, with a plan you can follow or mix and match.
Quick answer Three days is enough to see the highlights: one full day on a boat in Komodo National Park, plus a day for Rangko Cave or a sunset island trip. Four days adds the Cunca Wulang waterfall and a traditional Manggarai village. Five days gives you time for a beach or diving day, or lets you swap the day trips for a 3 day sailing trip and see the park properly.

How Many Days Do You Need in Labuan Bajo?
Three days is the minimum to enjoy Labuan Bajo without rushing. You need one full day for the boat trip into Komodo National Park, and it’s worth having a spare day in case the weather stops boats from sailing, which can happen in the wet season. In January 2026, the harbour authority stopped tourist boats for just over two weeks because of high waves.
With four or five days, you can add the inland side of Flores, take a sunset trip to the flying foxes, dive, or slow down on a beach. If the park is your main reason for coming, consider spending three of those days on a liveaboard instead (see the sailing option below).
Day 1: Arrive and Watch the Sunset
Most travelers fly in from Bali, a flight of about an hour, and Komodo Airport is only about 10 minutes from town. Check in, then head up to Amelia Hill, a short climb about 10 to 15 minutes from town, or Sylvia Hill near Waecicu Beach for sunset over the islands.
For dinner, walk down to the Kampung Ujung night market by the harbour, pick your fish on ice, and have it grilled. Agree on the price per kilo before they cook. Get to bed early, as tomorrow starts before dawn.

Day 2: Komodo National Park by Boat
This is the big day. A full-day speedboat trip leaves early in the morning and usually covers Padar Island for the famous viewpoint hike, Pink Beach for snorkeling, Komodo Island or Rinca to see the dragons with a ranger, and Manta Point for a chance to swim with manta rays. You’ll be back in town by late afternoon.
Put the boat day early in your trip. If the weather or the park’s daily quota means your trip is moved, you still have days to spare. Bring cash for the park fee if it isn’t included, plus sunscreen, a hat, and a swimsuit.

Day 3: Rangko Cave or a Sunset Island Trip
After a long boat day, take it easier. You have two good options.
- Rangko Cave: about 45 minutes by car plus a short boat ride from town, this cave hides a clear saltwater pool you can swim in. Half-day tours often add snorkeling at a nearby beach and sunset at Amelia Hill.
- Kalong Island sunset: a late afternoon boat trip to Kelor for a short hike, snorkeling at Manjarite, then Kalong Island at dusk, when thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves.
If you’re flying out on day 3, pick the morning at Batu Cermin, a limestone cave about 15 minutes from town, and keep the afternoon free.

Day 4: Cunca Wulang Waterfall and Melo Village
Spend a day inland. Cunca Wulang, about an hour’s drive from town, is a canyon with clear pools you can swim in, reached by a walk through the forest. On the way, stop at Melo, a traditional Manggarai village where visitors can watch the Caci whip dance. Wear shoes with good grip, and bring swimwear and a towel.

Day 5: Beach, Diving, or a Slow Day
Use your last day the way you like best.
- Beach day: relax at Waecicu or Pede Beach, or take a boat to an island beach. See the best beaches in Labuan Bajo.
- Diving: certified divers can book a 3 dive day directly with a local dive shop. See scuba diving and snorkeling in Komodo.
- Spare day: if your boat trip was moved because of the weather, this is your backup.
Prefer to Sail? The 5 Day Liveaboard Option
If Komodo National Park is the main reason you’re coming, swap days 2 to 4 for a 3 day sailing trip on a traditional phinisi. You’ll sleep on the boat, see Padar at sunrise before the day boats arrive, watch the flying foxes at Kalong Island, and reach quieter snorkel spots. Spend day 1 in town, sail days 2 to 4, and keep day 5 for Rangko Cave or a rest before your flight.

Where to Stay for Each Itinerary
For 3 or 4 days, stay in town near the harbour, so you can walk to restaurants and catch early pickups for the boat trip. For 5 days, consider splitting your stay, with the first nights in town and the last nights at a beach resort on Waecicu or Pede Beach. Tips for Planning Your Days
- Book the boat trip first. In peak season, the park’s daily quota and the best boats fill up early.
- Keep a spare day. Boats can be stopped in bad weather, especially from December to March.
- Go in the dry season if you can. April to October has calm seas and clear skies. See the best time to visit Labuan Bajo.
- Bring cash. There are no ATMs on the islands, and many small places only take rupiah.
